Dubai resident and Team India’s powerhouse lifter, Gulshan Banu Kazi, 47 years master 1 created history at the Asian, African & Pacific Powerlifting Championship, held in Himeji, Japan, from July 5 to 13, by setting three new Asian records in a performance that stunned the international powerlifting community.
Competing in the Under 84 kg category, Gulshan broke records in squat, deadlift, and total, making her one of the most dominant athletes at the championship. With a massive 208 kg deadlift, she not only clinched gold but firmly established herself as one of Asia’s most powerful women in the sport.
Her achievement was met with applause and respect as the Indian national anthem echoed through the arena during the medal ceremony an emotional and proud moment for Gulshan, who balances life as a working mother of three adult children and a dedicated athlete.
“This is not just my victory,” Gulshan said. “It’s for every woman who dares to chase her strength, no matter her age, circumstances, or challenges. Dubai gave me the space to grow, and India gave me the fire to fight.”
With over 15 years of experience in collections and now holding multiple Asian records, Gulshan proves that with grit and commitment, anything is possible. Her training base in Dubai and her international achievements have inspired a new generation of lifters across both the UAE and India.
Her focus now shifts toward the World Powerlifting Championship, where she aims to raise the bar even higher.
